Chronological age on the testing date
This is not Pearson's calculator. This is an independent website with no affiliation to, endorsement from, or connection with Pearson Education, Pearson Clinical Assessment or any of its brands. Pearson's own age calculator is available through Pearson's websites and scoring platforms. This page provides an alternative way to perform the same calendar arithmetic and does not reproduce any Pearson norms, scoring rules or software.
Pearson is one of the largest publishers of standardized psychological, educational and speech-language assessments. Because so many of its instruments are normed in narrow age bands, Pearson provides examiners with an age calculator through its own assessment websites and scoring platforms, so that a date of birth and a testing date can be converted into an exact age before scoring begins.
Clinicians typically search for it in one of two situations: they are away from the platform they normally use, or they simply want the calendar figure quickly without signing in. This page exists for the second case. It performs the same underlying subtraction โ testing date minus date of birth โ and returns the interval in years, months and days.
What it deliberately does not do is reproduce anything proprietary: no Pearson norms, no age-band tables, no standard-score conversion and no scoring software. Those remain with the publisher, and the official manual is always the authority.

Which should you use? If you are scoring a Pearson instrument and need age bands, standard scores or a record that lives inside Pearson's system, use Pearson's own tools. If you only need the calendar age โ for a report header, an intake form, a quick eligibility check or a manual scoring sheet โ the calculator on this page is faster and needs nothing installed.
Standardized tests compare a person's raw performance against a reference sample of people the same age. Chronological age is the key that selects that reference group, which is why it is calculated before anything is scored.
Date of birth 22 November 2015, tested on 6 March 2024. Counting whole calendar months first, the child was 8 years and 3 months old on 22 February 2024, and 6 March is 13 days later โ so the exact calendar age is 8 years, 3 months, 13 days, written 8;3 on most record forms. The calculator above returns exactly that.
A note on the 30-day borrowing convention. Worked by hand, many manuals tell you to borrow a flat 30 days from the month column, which for these dates gives 14 days instead of 13. The difference appears whenever the borrowed month is not 30 days long โ February 2024 had 29. It never changes the years or months figure, so it almost never changes which norms table applies, but if your record form requires the manual's method, follow the manual.
Searches for a "Pearson age calculator UK" usually come from educational psychologists, SENCOs and therapists who want to be sure a tool handles their date format. The calculator on this page sidesteps the problem entirely: the month is chosen by name, so 03/04/2024 can never be read as 4 March instead of 3 April.
The calendar arithmetic itself is identical everywhere โ the Gregorian calendar does not change at a border, and leap years are handled the same way. What does vary by country is which instruments are in common use, which norms apply and which local guidance governs eligibility. Those come from the publisher and your local authority, not from a date calculator. Australian, UK, Irish, Canadian and US users can all use the tool above without converting anything.
This page reproduces only the calendar arithmetic. For any published test, the examiner's manual โ and the publisher's scoring software where you use it โ sets the rules for borrowing days, rounding or dropping remaining days, assigning age bands and whether to correct for prematurity. Where those rules differ from this calculator, the manual governs.
