How the Age On Date Calculator Works
This tool measures the time between two dates you choose: a date of birth and a target date. The target date starts as today, so you can change it to any day in the past or future. The result is your exact age on that date in completed years, months and days, plus the total days lived, total completed months, and the day of the week the target date falls on.
Age is counted the same way people normally state it. First the calculator counts whole years up to the last birthday on or before the target date. Then it counts whole months from that birthday, and finally the remaining days. Because every step uses real calendar months, the answer matches how a school, clinic or government office would read your age from a birth certificate.
Worked example: a kindergarten cutoff
Many school districts require a child to be 5 by September 1 of the school year. For a child born on March 14, 2025, enter that as the date of birth and September 1, 2030 as the target date:
- Whole years: March 14, 2025 to March 14, 2030 is 5 years.
- Whole months: March 14 to August 14, 2030 is 5 more months.
- Remaining days: August 14 to September 1 is 18 days.
On that Sunday the child will be 5 years, 5 months and 18 days old, or 1,997 days, so they meet a "5 by September 1" rule. Always check the exact cutoff wording with the school, since some districts use different dates.
